About the Book
One thing that stands out in this book is our veterans, male and female, white and black, who have contributed to what we are today.  They were called on at a very critical time in history to do a job that required a very special dedication.  I hope that this book will serve as a tribute to our veterans and to Florence  County.  I also hope this book will be in every school and library, and that its history will be passed on to future generations.

Labor of Love

This book is a project that I have wanted to do for many years, and finally, it is a reality.  Bill was my Sunday school teacher for years, and I enjoyed hearing about his experiences in WWII.  I encouraged him to put those experiences in a book so others could read about them and remember them for future generations.  Now, it is done.  Thanks again from my grandchildren, future generations, and me.

The comments from our veterans were outstanding and I will always remember this experience.  Someone once said, "Life is memories."  Through this book, we hope that our future generations can look back and remember what WWII was all about - the hardships, deaths, and happenings that our ancestors encountered.

I am so thankful that we still have a large number of WWII veterans in Florence County so that they can be remembered and be recognized not just for today, for forever.  We are enjoying our lives full of tranquility because of whom they are and who they were.  We will always be grateful and will honor them forever.
